Particularities

Two-day tour through endless forests and over frozen rivers. On this tour, the three great rivers of northern Sweden be traveled: Vindelälv, Yukton and Umeälv. Snowy, picturesque valleys alternate with barren heights and you by snowmobile in the middle of a unique polar landscape.

Tour description

We meet at the rental station in Sorsele. After a short briefing it goes on the ice of the river Vindelälven. On a well-marked trail we go upstream until we turn into the mountains. Now the snowmobiles have to climb many meters up before we cross the lake Osaträsket. On snowy forest roads we drive west, but then turn to the south and go over the mountains into the valley of Yukton. Before we go down to the imposing ice area we raced in a fisherman's cottage on a lake.

Then it's in the north-west direction again uphill into the woods. Later we come to higher ground. From here we can see the high mountains in the distance which we can visit with an additional trip in plenty of time. First, however, we go down to the valley, cross the river Umeälv and have achieved our destination, the Skoterhotel. The end of the day we will spend in the sauna.

The next day after a great breakfast we follow the trail in the south-east direction until it leads us into the woods. In Slussfors we could refuel and take a break again then it goes into the highlands. The orientation here can be vary difficult. In Storblaiken the construction of wind power plants in recent years made it at the pre-existing Skotertrail completely disappeared.  If you have found the right exit it goes down through the vast forests Vindelälven contrary. On this upstreams back to Sorsele.

Requirements

Some basic fitness for longer trips on snowmobiles is advantageous. Difficult terrain does not occur but individual sections with appropriate snow conditions (especially after snowfall) can be demanding.

Equipment

Warm protective equipment is provided: helmets, gloves, warm overalls, boots (ski mask if necessary)
