Auf den Gipfel des Gajsatje -

3.300 ft over the sea

Particularities

Nice ski mountain in the Vindelfjäll Nature Reserve with great views. The ascents and descents are also suitable for touring beginners.

Tour description

The mountain "Gajsatje" is the first higher mountain we reached from Ammarnäs when we approach the Vindelfjällen nature reserve from the south. Its easily accessible location make it to a popular destination.

We drive by car from Ammarnäs in a westerly direction to the parking lot Tjulträsket. First we go northwest through subalpine birch forest up the hill. After about an hour we pass the treeline and reach the highlands. We follow the signs up to a nameless hill. From here it goes steeply upwards towards the summit. A stone pyramid indicates that we have now reached the highest point (3.281 ft above sea level).

From here we have a fantastic view over the southern part of Vindelfjällen nature reserve with the two mighty mountains Suvlåjävvie (4.400 ft) and Stuvbiebaktie (4.100 ft). On the other side of the lake Tjulträsket we see the mountain Stor Aigert (3.612 ft) with the steep Aigert North Face. This mountain is in the Sami religion called "Äijvisåive" and it is considered as a holy mountain. Descent along the ascent track.
