Particularities

The Pieljekaise National Park is located in Arjeplogsfjäll between Jäckvik and Adolfström. The park gets its name from the highest elevating, the mountain Pieljekaise (3.700 ft). From here you can see the high snowy Norwegian mountains in the west. The walk through the park passes through ancient birch forests and along many lakes. Especially in the fall surprised the variety of colors of the far stretched forests and meadows (Indian Summer).

Tour description

The tour starts in Jäckvik. After 4 km climb in the birch forest the road forks. The trodden track by Southwest (Kungsleden) continues to Pieljekaisestugan. The cottage is open to day visitors, for overnight stay pick up the key in Jäckvik at the grocery store. We take the less used trail to the south and reach in just over 1 mile the National Park boundary. Soon we come to a small mountain lake on whose shores we set up our camp. From here we can climb the Pieljekaise the same day with a light pack. The next day takes us down through winding paths into the valley in which we take over several small bridges to a windshield our lunch break. The further route leads us to the south by magnificent subalpine birch forests to the river Laisälven (then tour ends in Viejenäs) or we decide for another overnight camping in the mountains and descend to Gauto the next day.
